Message from João Petersen

Giant's Tank Sanctuary is a wildlife sanctuary located in northern Sri Lanka, about 20 km southeast of Mannar. Established in 1954, it covers an area of 43 square kilometers and is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including water and wader birds, fish species, and Asian elephants. Unfortunately, the sanctuary has faced challenges like illegal deforestation for banana plantations. Overall, Giant's Tank Sanctuary offers a peaceful haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts to explore and appreciate the beauty of Sri Lanka's natural environment.
