Sri Lanka offers a variety of transport options ranging from scenic rail journeys to convenient app-based taxi services

Sri Lanka
Private Drivers
Hiring a private driver is a very popular way to navigate the island, though not the only option.
Booking: You can pre-book through companies (it is recommended to check Google and TripAdvisor for reviews) or make arrangements locally in Colombo or Negombo based on recommendations.
Driver Recommendation: The guide specifically recommends Chamee at Visit Lanka Travel & Tours (+94 763222239; chameethilanga@gmail.com).
Cost: If you prefer not to have a dedicated full-time driver, one-way taxis between major towns average between 15,000–20,000 LKR.
Tours: Many organized day tours from hubs like Kandy include a private driver to sites like Sigiriya, Pinnawala, or Nuwara Eliya.
Tuk-Tuks and Scooters
Tuk-tuks are ideal for flexible exploring, particularly in beach towns and rural areas.
Booking via App: It is much safer and cheaper to book Tuk-Tuk taxis via the PickMe app rather than hailing them on the street.
Safety Warning: In Colombo, be wary of drivers who offer to take you to "government-run" souvenir shops, as they often receive commissions for bringing tourists there.
Scooter Hire: Hiring a scooter is another popular option for flexible local travel in beach and rural regions.
Public Transport
Trains (Sri Lanka Railways): Scenic rail routes connect Colombo to major hubs including Kandy, Ella, Galle, and Jaffna. The guide highlights the Kandy to Ella route as the "world's most scenic train journey".
Intercity Buses: These are a budget-friendly option for connecting major cities and tourist hubs.
Transport Apps
PickMe: This is the fastest and most reliable way to move around towns and for short distances. The app ensures fair pricing and is highly recommended over street-hailing for both price and safety.
Air Travel
International: Most travelers arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Negombo.
Domestic: Cinnamon Air offers domestic flights, which is the fastest way to reach remote regions like the Cultural Triangle, Hill Country, and the East Coast.
