Geography
Sri Lanka lies just south of India, surrounded by the Indian Ocean. The island features tropical beaches, lush rainforests, and highland tea plantations.
Climate
The climate is tropical, with two main monsoon seasons:
Southwest Monsoon (May–September): Affects the southwest coast and central hills.
Northeast Monsoon (December–February): Affects the northeast and eastern regions.

West and South Coasts: December to April
East Coast: May to September
Hill Country: December to April
Language & Currency
Languages: Sinhala, Tamil, and English (widely spoken)
Currency: Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR)
Cuisine
Rice and Curry: The national staple, served with various vegetable and meat curries.
Hoppers (Appa): Bowl-shaped pancakes made from fermented rice flour.
Kottu Roti: Chopped flatbread stir-fried with vegetables, eggs, and meat.
Seafood: Freshly caught fish, prawns, and crabs are common along the coast.
Halal: Many restaurants offer halal food.
Festivals
Sinhala and Tamil New Year (April): Celebrated with traditional games and food.
Vesak (May): Marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of Buddha. Streets are decorated with lanterns and lights.
Kandy Esala Perahera (July–August): A grand procession featuring dancers, drummers, and decorated elephants.
