Top Safari Destinations
Yala National Park: Considered the island's "crown jewel," it offers the best global opportunity to spot the elusive Sri Lankan leopard.
Best Time: February – June.
Access from: Arugam Bay, Tangalle, or Ella.
Udawalawe National Park: A rival to the African savannah, this park is an elephant lover's paradise with guaranteed sightings across open grasslands.
Best Time: December – May.
Access from: The South East.
Minneriya National Park: Famous for "The Gathering," where hundreds of wild elephants congregate around an ancient reservoir.
Best Time: July – September.
Access from: Sigiriya or Kandy.
Wilpattu National Park: The largest and oldest park in Sri Lanka, providing a peaceful wilderness for tracking leopards and sloth bears away from crowds.
Best Time: February – October.
Access from: Negombo or Anuradhapura.

Gal Oya National Park: The only location in the country offering a boat safari, where elephants can be seen swimming between islands.
