  1. Driving is crazy in Peru. I would not recommend hiring a car. Instead, get a private driver or take a bus service.

  2. It is custom to discard used toilet paper in the trash cans, not in the toilet. You'll notice trash cans next to the toilet for this purpose. As a result, the bathrooms can be a bit stinkier.

  3. Spanish is the primary language spoken, though most learn English and will want to use it, especially when you are in tourist areas. However, it's a great idea to learn a few phrases before you go.

  4. The weather can be hot, cold, cloudy, sunny, and rainy all in the same day. Pack layers and a rain jacket.

  5. Peruvian soles is the currency used, however most places accept US dollars and is preferred.
