5 Tips to Avoid Altitude Sickness
Do this to avoid getting altitude sickness in Cusco and Machu Picchu

Altitude sickness is a real issue in Peru, especially when you are in the Machu Picchu and Cusco areas.
Thankfully we avoided altitude sickness and here's how you can, too!
1. If possible, leave Cusco immediately after you arrive and acclimate in the Sacred Valley (which is lower elevation) for a day or two before any hikes.
2. Many hotels, restaurants, and train stations offer coca tea. This herbal tea helps with altitude sickness. Add a little sugar if needed.
3. Pack some altitude sickness supplements. We got these ones from Amazon and took them a day or two before traveling and each day we were there.
Stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water.
Take your time. Plan in plenty of time in case you need to stop for breaks.
