From Aguas Calientes, a fleet of shuttle buses operated exclusively by Consettur Machupicchu S.A.C. takes visitors up the narrow switchback road to the Machu Picchu entrance. The ride is only 25–30 minutes, but it saves you from a steep uphill hike and is the most common way travelers reach the citadel.

Buses run every 5–10 minutes starting around 5:30 am, matching entry ticket times for Machu Picchu. Tickets can be purchased:

  • Online through Consettur’s website

  • At the Consettur office in Aguas Calientes

  • In Cusco (Av. Infancia 433, Wanchaq)

We found the ride itself exciting, zigzagging up the mountain with glimpses of the Urubamba River far below. It builds anticipation, especially if you’re on the first buses of the morning.

Pro Tip: Get in line early (before 5 am if you have an early entry ticket) to be among the first into the site. If you’re budget-conscious or want a challenge, you can skip the bus and hike up in about 1–1.5 hours.
