Alfajores are one of Peru’s most iconic sweets: delicate sandwich cookies filled with manjar blanco (a type of dulce de leche), often dusted with powdered sugar. And there’s no better place to try them than La Casa del Alfajor, a bakery that has perfected this treat.

We sampled a few varieties, but our favorites were the manjar blanco-filled alfajores rolled in chestnut — melt-in-your-mouth, buttery, and just the right amount of sweetness. The ones rolled in coconut were extremely good as well. It’s also the perfect place to pick up a box to take home as a gift (if you can resist eating them all first).

Pro Tip: Try the different flavor variations, like chocolate or coconut-coated alfajores, for a twist on the classic.
