The Cruz del Condor viewpoint is the most famous spot in Colca Canyon, and for good reason. It’s where you can see the Andean condor, one of the world’s largest flying birds, gliding effortlessly on the canyon’s thermal currents. With wingspans of over 10 feet (3 meters), these birds are an unforgettable sight.

Watching condors rise out of the canyon and soar directly overhead was magical. The viewpoint itself also offers sweeping canyon views, making it a must-stop whether you’re trekking or on a bus tour.

Pro Tip: Arrive early in the morning (8–10am is best) when the condors are most active. Bring binoculars or a zoom lens for the best views, and pack a jacket (mornings are chilly at this altitude). Also, if the main viewpoint is busy, walk 5 minutes down to the second viewpoint - better views and less people.
