No trip to Peru is complete without tasting its national spirit, Pisco. The Ica and Pisco regions, just inland from Paracas, are home to vineyards that have been producing this grape brandy for centuries.

Visiting a Pisco bodega is part history lesson, part tasting adventure. You’ll tour the distillery, learn how Pisco is made, and sample different varieties, from pure single-grape Piscos to aromatic blends.

It’s also the perfect place to try a Pisco Sour at the source. Many vineyards also serve food, making it a fun stop on the way between Paracas and Huacachina.

While we do not drink alcohol, even just visiting a pisco vineyard and learning about it was really fascinating.

Pro Tip: Some famous vineyards to visit include Tacama (one of the oldest in South America) and Bodega El Catador. Go with a tour if you plan to taste (roads are not forgiving for self-drivers).
