One of the first sights you’ll see on a boat trip from Paracas is the Candelabro, a massive geoglyph etched into the sandy hillside overlooking the bay. Shaped like a giant three-pronged candlestick (or trident), it stretches over 590 feet (180 meters) tall and is best viewed from the water.

Its origins remain a mystery. Some believe it was created by the Paracas culture over 2,000 years ago, while others think it is more recent and served as a navigational marker for sailors, but no one knows for sure.

Pro Tip: Morning boat tours offer the clearest views. Bring a zoom lens if you want to capture the details.
