The Centro Histórico de Lima is the city’s colonial heart and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Centered around the Plaza de Armas, it’s lined with ornate buildings like the Government Palace, Archbishop’s Palace, and the Cathedral of Lima. Beyond the main square, you’ll find atmospheric plazas, centuries-old churches, and pedestrian streets like Jirón de la Unión that connect the neighborhoods with color and energy.

For us, wandering the Centro Histórico felt like stepping into another side of Lima. Far from the modern coastline, this is where you feel the weight of history. We especially loved our evening tour, when the plazas were lit up, music spilled out of side streets, and the catacombs of San Francisco added a touch of mystery.

Pro Tip: Visit during the day to explore churches, palaces, and museums, then come back at night when the whole area glows under golden lights.
