The Yanahuara Scenic Overlook is one of Arequipa’s most famous viewpoints, set in a charming neighborhood just outside the city center. The highlight is a series of elegant white sillar arches etched with poems and inscriptions, perfectly framing views of the Misti volcano and the rooftops of the White City.
We visited as part of our Ruta del Sillar tour, which made it an easy addition to a half-day of exploring Arequipa’s iconic stonework. The timing worked out beautifully. We arrived in the late afternoon, when the light was soft and the volcano seemed to glow.
And don’t leave without trying queso helado, Arequipa’s signature frozen treat (a creamy blend of vanilla and cinnamon, despite its name meaning “cheese ice cream”). Enjoying a cup while taking in the view was the perfect combo of local flavor and scenery.
Pro Tip: Visit around sunset for the best photos, but come early if you want the arches without crowds. Pair it with a stroll through Yanahuara’s narrow streets for a taste of local charm.
