Stóra-Eldborg, next to Geitahlíð, is a small volcano located on the Reykjanes Peninsula in Iceland. Standing at 50 meters high with a 30-meter deep crater, it's quite a sight to behold! The volcano is part of the Brennisteinsfjöll volcanic system and is surrounded by other fascinating features like crater rows and fissures. It sits at the foot of a larger mountain called Geitahlíð which can be a fun combination to hike. For anyone interested in volcanoes, this place is a must stop if you're in the area.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An easy-to-access volcanic crater in Reykjanes.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Any (but sunset is my favourite there).

  • Nice to know: Just north of the crater is a mountain called Geitahlíð, so if you're feeling energetic and have an hour or two to burn - go hike!
