The Secret Lagoon spa is a geothermal area near Flúðir. Dating back to 1891, it's the oldest natural pool in the country and had been left abandoned for decades until its present day owner decided to give it new life in 2005. Hot water bubbles up from deep within the earth at a rate of 10 litres per second, constantly replenishing the pool so that there is a steady supply of warm clean water at any given time, making sure the water stays warm at around 38-40 degrees Celsius (102 F) all year round.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A geothermal pool in West Iceland.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Opening hours: 10am - 7/8pm (depending on the season).

  • Nice to know: It's not really a luxury spa. It's basically a natural geothermal outdoor pool. There are changing rooms, showers, bar & a restaurant on site.
