An epic beach with dark cliffs and black sand. You can definitely spend quite some time here, especially with kids. And for those who want to test their might, you can find four ancient lifting stones from when the peninsula once served as one of Iceland's most active trading posts. The remains of the English trawler Epine GY 7, which shipwrecked on the shore in 1948, also adds to the area's memorable atmosphere. Definitely be aware of the strong currents near this beach, and adhere to the notice not to remove any rocks from the area.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: A rugged beach on the western part of the Snæfellsnes peninsula.

  • Best season: Any.

  • Best time of day: Midday and sunset has the best light.

  • Nice to know: Be aware of the waves here!
