Eldborg Crater is a cool volcanic crater on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula in Iceland. It's about 60 meters tall and was formed in an eruption around 5000-6000 years ago. The crater has smooth sides and a distinct shape, making it stand out in the surrounding lava field. You can hike to the top of Eldborg for nice views and maybe even spot some ravens nesting inside. It's a bit of a trek and in my opinion not something that absolutely can't be missed but definitely worth it if you're interested in volcanoes and looking to stretch your legs!

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: An old volcanic crater in Snæfellsnes.

  • Best season: Summer (but spring/fall will definitely work).

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: The hike takes around 45 minutes one way (around 3 km / 1.8 miles).
