Fjallsárlón is the "little sister" of the great Jökulsárlón. Since it's a bit smaller it tends to be less busy so definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. There are two parking options and which one is better depends on where the most icebergs are (depending on how the wind has been). The west one has a restaurant/toilets and usually more people and the east one is just a simple parking lot.

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: The next most visited glacier lagoon in Iceland, just west of Jökulsárlón (the main one).

  • Best season: Any (during winter, the icebergs tend to be more stuck in place, but during the rest of the year they can be moving more).

  • Best time of day: Any.

  • Nice to know: If it has been windy, the floating icebergs can all be pushed to one side or the other (depending on the direction of the wind) so you might need to walk a little bit to get to them.
