Seljalandsfoss is a captivating 60-meter (197 ft) tall waterfall located in the South Region of Iceland near Route 1 on the road that leads to Þórsmörk. An impressive feature of this stunning scene is that visitors are able to walk behind the falls and into a small cave where one can take beautiful photos or just enjoy the tranquil ambience. Seljalandsfoss has been featured in many movies and music videos, including CKY2K, Justin Bieber's I'll Show You, and Björk's character walking behind the falls in the 1990 movie The Juniper Tree. This iconic Icelandic destination is guaranteed to take your breath away!

QUICK NOTES:

  • What it is: One of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, located right by the ring road on the South Coast

  • Best season: Summer (this is pretty all year around but usually you can't walk behind it during winter and it's in the shade most of the time)

  • Best time of day: Early afternoon until sunset (it's in the shade in the early hours)

  • Nice to know: You can walk all the way and get behind the waterfall - definitely worth getting a little wet for!
