Accommodations & Where to Stay

Pick one or two good bases, not a new bed every night.

The Alps, Germany

It comes down to your travel style. Domi travels by self-built campervan for the freedom it gives, but there are plenty of other options. For more comfort, there are countless hotels, guesthouses and apartments for every budget, easiest to find through Booking.com, Hotels.com or Airbnb.

The Alps are big, so there's no single perfect base. Choose one or two well-placed hubs for the number of days you have. For many hikes in this guide, Oberstdorf (Germany) or western Austria around Lech or St. Anton work well; for Switzerland, the Interlaken region is one of the best bases. With more time, add a stop in a region like the Salzburger Land. The itineraries in this guide already build around the best areas to stay.
