What a Trip Costs
Roughly what to budget, and where it adds up.

The Alps, Germany
It's not the cheapest destination, and Switzerland is noticeably pricier than Austria and Germany. As a rough daily guide: Budget 60 to 100€ per day if you camp, cook and skip most lifts; Mid-range 100 to 180€; Higher-end 200€+ with hotels, eating out and regular cable cars.
Accommodation ranges from campsites (10 to 25€/night), to mountain huts (30 to 70€/night, a great mix of experience and value), to hotels (80 to 200€/night, highest in Switzerland). Cable cars are convenient but add up fast at 20 to 60€ a ride, more in Switzerland, and many of the best experiences come from hiking anyway. Eating out runs 15 to 40€ a meal in touristy areas, so buying food at a supermarket for a picnic saves money and, with those views, is often the better experience. A rental car is roughly 40 to 80€ per day.
