Braemar Castle, located just two miles from the mountain town of Braemar. You will see the striking white castle from afar and it is worthy of a visit if you are interested in Jacobite era history.
The 17th-century fortress was originally built to defend against clan rivalries and has seen its fair share of history over the centuries. The castle features distinctive architecture with its tall white towers and sturdy stone walls, making it a striking sight against the backdrop of the stunning landscape.
In 1731 Braemar Castle was purchased by John Farquharson, 9th Laird of Invercauld. Since then, the Farquharsons’ close links to Braemar Castle have drawn clan members from around the world to visit and connect with their ancestral home.
As you walk towards the castle, the recently renovated grounds have time stamped markers on the ground that detail the turbulent history. The grounds are open all year round, however if you wish to see the interiors they are only open in the summer months.
Visitors are requested to park in the designated car park signposted off the A93 road.
