Flights to Exuma (GGT)
Timeline: 6-8 months out
Direct Flights from the U.S.
Exuma International Airport (GGT) is very small, but it does offer direct flights from Miami (MIA) (American), Fort Lauderdale (FLL) (Bahamas Air - Seasonal), Atlanta (ATL) (Delta - Seasonal), and Charlotte (CLT) (American Airlines).

Nassau (NAS) is another option
Bahamasair and Western Air both operate the Nassau → GGT route (~45 minutes) with roughly 120+ flights per month. The Nassau layover adds hours, and with kids, those hours feel like days. Plus, you may have to stay overnight in Nassau, which is expensive and wastes a lot of time.
Tip: Book direct to GGT whenever possible. Miami is the most consistent year-round option. Atlanta on Delta is our personal route — a roughly 2.5-hour flight that gets you on the island by early afternoon when timed right. For families flying outside the direct route windows, Miami is the most reliable hub.
⚠️ Note on seasonal routes: Direct service from Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, and Charlotte operates roughly April–August/September. If you're planning a peak-season trip (December–March), Miami is your most reliable direct option from the U.S. Always confirm current schedules directly with the airline before booking — seasonal routes can shift.
Best routing options from NY & NJ:
JFK/EWR → MIA (Miami) then American Airlines direct to GGT — shortest overall travel time
JFK/EWR → ATL (Atlanta) then Delta direct to GGT — seasonal (April–September)
JFK → NAS (Nassau) then Bahamasair/Western Air to GGT — adds the most time but widely available year-round
Car rental
Timeline: 2–4 months out; confirm a few days before arrival
You need a car — full stop. There is no public transportation in Exuma. Rent one for the moment you land. Note: the cars are basic here. Queen's Highway has potholes, and some beach access roads are unpaved dirt tracks. Car rental and driving won't be the highlight of your trip.

Other Car Tips:
Drive on the left.
Get an SUV if you can.
Document the condition at pickup. The cars won't be new. Expect scratches, dents, and existing wear. Record a quick video. Note it before you drive off, so there's no confusion on return.
The gas station near the airport is cash only, about 5–10 minutes away. Fill up before you return the car — don't get caught scrambling for cash on departure day.
