Lock In Your Private Boat Charter

Tip: peak season (December–April), so book early and book for days at the front of your trip in case excursions have to be moved around because of the weather.

A boat day is the single best experience in Exuma. The Exuma Cays are a chain of 365 islands, and the only way to see them is by water. Swimming pigs, nurse sharks, iguanas, underwater caves, and sandbars that look too beautiful to be real — it's all out there. Book at least two boat days. One is not enough.

1) Private charter — our top pick: Cay Lime Charters or Exuma Watersports — full-day private tour, 8 hours, up to 10 people, around $3,200 for the group excluding tip. We did this with 4 adults and 5 kids, and we had the best time. Stops include Pig Beach (Big Major Cay), nurse sharks at Staniel Cay, lunch at Staniel Cay Yacht Club, Iguana Cay, The Blow Hole, and snorkeling at the Aircraft Wreck and Mermaid Playing Piano.

Note: This is a long, all-day trip, and it's about a 2-hour drive in a fast boat there and back with a few stops along the way. Not for everyone and definitely not something you have to do on every visit to Exuma! The kids will love it! We've done it once, and now I'm good!

Tip: Plan to have an early lunch at Staniel Yacht Club. You can also see nurse sharks there at the marina.

Booking tip: Tell Cay Lime where you're staying when you book. They'll customize your departure and return dock based on your accommodation location — after 8 hours on the water with tired kids, this detail matters more than it sounds.

2) Public tour option: Exuma Watersports —

Seven Beaches & Moriah Marine Park — 4 hours, $175/adult, $85/kids 3–12. Departs from Browns Marine, 10 minutes south of George Town. A fantastic semi-private option and a strong second boat day. This is so great, and you will see popular sand bars and untouched places!

Other vetted operators:

Minns Boat Rentals

Experienced boaters can captain and rent their own boat for the day to stay around the harbor. You can even visit Stocking Island at the beach clubs. Just pay attention to the tides.

Island Exclusive Boat Rentals

You can rent a boat with or without a captain. We have rented with them before, and it was great!

3) Hydro Watersports Hydrobike Eco Tour with Daran: A 2-hour guided tour through Moriah Harbor Cay National Park and the natural Lazy River. It's genuinely unlike anything else on this island — our 10-year-old rode independently; the younger two sat on adult bikes. Works for every age. Daran reviews the forecast and tides before each tour, so build a flexible window into your schedule. This is also a strong option for wind days when boat tours can't run.
