🗓️ Best time to visit: Jul–Sep | early start
⏱️ Recommended time: 6–8 hours

One of the most epic day hikes in Alaska, the Harding Icefield Trail takes you from valley floor to a jaw-dropping panorama of endless ice in Kenai Fjords National Park. Starting near Exit Glacier, this challenging climb rewards you with views that feel more like Greenland than anything else.

💡 Trail details:

  • Distance: ~13 km (8.2 miles round trip)

  • Elevation gain: ~1,000 m (3,300 ft)

  • Time: 6–8 hours

  • Difficulty: challenging

💡 Why visit:

  • one of the few hikes where you can see a massive icefield up close

  • constantly changing views—from forest to alpine to pure ice

  • true “wow” moment at the top overlooking the Harding Icefield

⚠️ Good to know:

  • steep and physically demanding—pace yourself

  • weather changes fast, especially higher up

  • bring layers, food, and plenty of water

🥾 Extra tip:
Even if you don’t hike all the way to the top, reaching the first viewpoints already offers incredible scenery—perfect if you’re short on time or energy.
