🗓️ Best time to visit: Jun–Sep
⏱️ Recommended time: 1–3 days

The largest national park in the United States, Wrangell–St. Elias National Park & Preserve is a place where scale becomes almost impossible to comprehend. Massive glaciers, remote mountain ranges, and abandoned mining towns create a wild, untouched landscape that feels like true expedition territory.

💡 Why visit:

  • the biggest national park in the U.S.—larger than some countries

  • incredible glacier experiences, including hiking directly on ice

  • unique mix of nature and history (old mining towns like Kennicott)

⚠️ Good to know:

  • access is remote → expect long gravel roads (McCarthy Road)

  • limited services → plan fuel, food, and supplies in advance

  • weather can change quickly and conditions can be rough

🧊 Extra tip:
Don’t miss a guided hike on the Root Glacier—it’s one of the most accessible ways to walk on a glacier in Alaska.

I would recommend to do a ICE CAVE tour, they have their own office wight in Kennecott and you can find more here
