A short but incredibly scenic hike in Denali National Park and Preserve, perfect if you’re looking for a quick adventure with big rewards. This easy loop follows the Savage River through a dramatic canyon, offering stunning mountain views and a peaceful escape into Alaska’s wild landscape.

  • Distance: ~3.2 km (2 miles loop)

  • Elevation gain: minimal

  • Time: 1–1.5 hours

  • Difficulty: easy

💡 Why visit:

  • one of the best short hikes in Denali

  • beautiful river views with surrounding peaks

  • great chance to spot wildlife (especially Dall sheep on nearby slopes)

⚠️ Good to know:

  • one of the few areas accessible by private car in Denali

  • can be windy in the canyon → bring a light jacket

  • stay wildlife-aware and keep a safe distance

🥾 Extra tip:
Walk the loop counterclockwise for slightly better views opening up ahead of you—and fewer people at the start.
