Get ready for one of the most rewarding short hikes in Glacier National Park. The trail to Saint Mary Falls is a beautiful walk, about 1.7 miles roundtrip, that takes you to a stunning 35-foot, multi-tiered waterfall. You'll wander through a forest recovering from a fire, which means you get wide-open views of the surrounding peaks as you head down to the gorge. The sight of the falls plunging into a vibrant, turquoise pool is truly something special, and the cool mist is incredibly refreshing. Parking at the trailhead is very limited, so I recommend arriving early in the morning or using the park's shuttle service to avoid disappointment.
If you have enough energy, it's perfect to connect this trail with Virginia Falls, you will have approximately double distance in total, but it definitely worth it. Despite large parts of the park being affected by wildfires in 2017, the landscape remains absolutely stunning—there’s always something to look at, something to admire.
