🗓️ Best time to visit:

  • Year-round (indoor museum)

  • Midday for a relaxed visit between activities

⏱️ Recommended time:

  • 1–2 hours

Located in Fairbanks, the University of Alaska Museum of the North is one of the most important cultural stops in Alaska. It showcases the natural, cultural, and scientific history of the region—and is also the new home of the legendary Bus 142 from Into the Wild.

💡 Why visit:

  • see the famous “Into the Wild” bus (Bus 142) in a safe setting - should be open to public since August 2025, but it was postponed.

  • learn about Alaska’s wildlife, geology, and indigenous cultures

  • unique exhibits like the Blue Babe (prehistoric bison)

⚠️ Good to know:

  • Bus 142 is being preserved and prepared for a dedicated exhibit (check updates before visiting)

  • museum is located on the university campus

  • great stop in bad weather or as a break from outdoor activities

Adult admission is around $23, and it's worth setting aside at least a couple of hours to take it all in.
