A strenuous but rewarding 12-mile round-trip hike in the North Cascades, offering spectacular alpine scenery. The journey involves a steady climb through forests, meadows with wildflowers, and a challenging rock scramble to the glacier. Recommended to visit early/mid July to late September.

There is amazing backcountry spot directly under the glacier where you can spend a night or more. I highly recommend to spend there one night and see sunset and wake up early for a sunrise. This magical place worth the visit. Just be prepared that it gets cold during the night. Camping at Sahale Glacier requires a permit, so you have to book your spot in advance or you can try to spot by at the Wilderness and Wildlife Information Center, where you can also borrow the bear canister, which is a must have on that hike.

You can book your spot throught these websites (Starting Area is a Cascade Pass Area). We've paid 26USD for 2people (september 2025). Reserved permits must be picked-up by 11am on the start date of the trip, or the reservation will be cancelled.
