🗓️ Best time to visit: Aug–Sep | sunrise/sunset
⏱️ Recommended time: 1–3 days (or 6+ hours section hike)
One of the most rewarding ridge hikes in Alaska, K’esugi Ridge offers jaw-dropping panoramic views of Denali and the surrounding Alaska Range. Located in Denali State Park, this trail is a quieter alternative to the national park—yet just as breathtaking.
💡 Trail details:
Distance: up to ~48 km (30 miles, point-to-point)
Elevation gain: ~1,500–2,000 m (depending on section)
Time: 1–4 days (or shorter out-and-back options) - or you can do just day trip especially if you have two cars (we had just one, so we hitchhiked and it worked perfectly)
Difficulty: moderate to challenging
💡 Why visit:
some of the best Denali views without entering the national park
stunning alpine tundra, rolling ridgelines, and endless wilderness
far fewer crowds compared to Denali National Park
⚠️ Good to know:
weather can change rapidly → be prepared for all conditions
no services on the trail → carry everything you need
shuttle or car logistics needed for point-to-point hikes
🏕️ Extra tip:
Plan an overnight stay along the ridge—sunset and sunrise views of Denali from here are absolutely unforgettable (and often clearer than inside the park).
