Best time & Seasons

Come in the dry season (April–October). May to September is the sweet spot — clear volcano views, safer waterfall descents, reliable Ijen blue fire and Jomblang light beams.

Avoid January–February. Peak wet season means high, dangerous water at the Lumajang waterfalls and clouded-over volcanoes.

Mountains clear at dawn, cloud over by mid-morning. Semeru, Merapi, Sumbing and the Bromo caldera are almost always clearest at sunrise — plan volcano shots first thing.

Shoot waterfalls & caves late morning. Jomblang's beam peaks ~11:00 and canyon spots like Madakaripura get their sun/rainbow window mid-morning.
