Banggai Islands, Indonesia

Malaria exists in parts of eastern Indonesia, so talk to a travel doctor about prophylaxis before your trip and take mosquito protection seriously: repellent, long sleeves at dusk, a net if your room has gaps.

Pack a real first-aid kit – antiseptic, bandages, rehydration salts, any personal medication for the full trip plus reserve. Pharmacies on the islands are basic at best. Travel insurance with evacuation coverage isn't paranoia out here; it's the entry fee.
