The Rinjani Hike

why I don't cover it.

Ascending Rinjani is one of the most recommended must do's on Lombok if you research online. I however didn't cover it for two reasons:

  • the first ist stupid and obvious - we didn't do it ourselves and I can't give you much firsthand information on it

  • more importantly this hike is extremely (!) hard and often dangerously underestimated. Depending your route you are looking on 2600-3100 meters of elevation in one day with 45°-65° incline. On top of that the ground is mostly made of slippery ash. You are very exposed with tropical heat on the bottom and sometimes sub zero temperatures on the top. If you go proper gear is a must.

If you go you can start your trek from either Senaru or Sembalun. There are trek routes with 3 days (usually one day descent to the crater lake) or 2 days (crater rim and back).
