Use Meteoblue to read the swell
for the best surfing conditions
Lena and Chris
Lombok, Indonesia
For planning a session, Meteoblue's free Sea & Surf forecast is one of the most useful tools out there. Its meteogram separates true swell from locally wind-generated waves — the distinction that actually matters — and shows the wave period in seconds, alongside wind speed, gusts and direction, hourly for the next six days. Rule of thumb: you want a longer period and light offshore wind for the cleanest, most orderly waves; short periods with onshore wind mean messy, choppy surf. Since many of Lombok's reef breaks (Mawi, Seger, Tanjung Aan) only fire on the right tide, pair it with a local tide table before committing to the drive. Bookmark your spot's page and check it each morning over coffee.
