If you're going to try burek in Belgrade, don't make the mistake of thinking that all bakeries are the same. Burek is one of Serbia's most beloved baked goods, and just like with pizza, coffee, or pastries anywhere else, there is a noticeable difference between an average one and a great one ☝️.
We actually learned this the hard way. While researching, we found two bakeries on Google Maps using the similar photos. We ended up visiting the wrong one first because it had better reviews. It felt completely off. The bakery looked neglected, there were hardly any customers inside, and it definitely wasn't the place we were hoping for 😖.
Thankfully, we eventually found our way to this spot.
The difference was immediate. There were locals coming and going, the atmosphere felt authentic, and most importantly, the food was excellent. We tried the cheese burek, a cherry burek, and paired them with the traditional drink many locals enjoy alongside it: drinking yogurt, a tangy, sour yogurt drink that complements the rich pastry surprisingly well.
Everything was delicious. They also have a few cute tables outside, making it a great spot to sit down and enjoy a proper Serbian breakfast instead of rushing off with your food.
Highly recommended if you want to experience one of Serbia's most iconic foods at a place that clearly does it right. 😍
