The Basílica de la Macarena is one of Seville’s most important religious landmarks, known for its stunning Baroque architecture and the revered statue of La Macarena, a symbol of the city’s deep religious devotion. Situated in the Macarena district, the basilica was constructed in the 18th century and is a significant site for religious processions, particularly during Semana Santa (Holy Week), when La Macarena is carried through the streets in a grand procession. The interior is equally magnificent, with intricately detailed altars and artwork, but it is the statue of La Macarena, a depiction of the Virgin Mary, that draws thousands of pilgrims and visitors each year. The basilica’s serene atmosphere, rich history, and cultural significance make it a must-visit spot for anyone exploring Seville’s religious and artistic heritage.
