When is a good time to come to Portland??
It's pretty known that people tend to come to Portland in the summer, fall in love here because of the moderate climate and the beautiful nature it has to offer, then move here. Not realizing that most of the year, it is rainy and gray. But despite the limited amount of sunshine Portland receives. There is beauty in every season because we do get all 4 seasons. Depending on what you want to experience while you're here, that can help determine when is the best time to come.
Summer:
Summer is without a doubt one of the best times to come because you have access to do almost everything that Portland and its surroundings has to offer. The continuous sunny weather tends to start in mid to late June and goes until September. There are several markets like the Portland Saturday Market but also, it's a time to go to the lavender fields like the Lavender Farm in Hood River, an hour drive outside of Portland, go berry picking at Sauvie's Island or Hood River, hike up the waterfalls such as Romana Falls, go kayaking and paddle boarding along the Columbia or Willamette River with Portland Kayaking Company
Spring:
If you love flowers, then spring is a great time to come see the cherry blossoms along in mid to late March at the waterfront near the Japanese Historical Plaza or go to Portland's famous Portland Japanese Garden and see the cherry blossoms. There's also the tulip festivals in April with one of the most popular tulip farms being the Wood Shoe Tulip Farm , 45 minutes south of Portland. While the weather during this time is a bit unpredictable since it goes from sunny to rainy and is still quite cold in the 50s, sometimes 60s. It's still a beautiful time to explore the city. Within the city, there are gardens like the Crystal Rhododendron Garden and of course, Forest Park, one of the largest urban forests in the United States at 5,200 acres.
Winter:
With Mt. Hood being roughly 2 hours east of Portland, winter is a great time to enjoy the snow on the mountains. Also, because Oregon has no sales tax, it's a great place to do any holiday shopping. While the weather may mostly rainy, there's plenty of museums and indoor activities you can do as well. From Hopscotch, an interactive and immersive art museum, Powell's bookstore, the world's largest independent bookstore, and so much more!
Fall
Fall in Portland is a sight to see. The foliage transforms the city into a place full of color. Enjoy the foliage by going to in the city and nearby parks such as the Hoyt Arboretum and Forest Park. Explore the pumpkin patches and corn mazes and it's a great time to enjoy the many hike trails to enjoy the foliage in all of its glory.
