Sheringham Point Lighthouse is a historic coastal landmark tucked along the rugged Juan de Fuca Strait, just west of Shirley on Vancouver Island’s south coast. Built in 1912, this still-operating lighthouse has guided ships through the strait for over a century and remains one of the most peaceful ocean viewpoints on the island.
A short, easy forest trail leads from the parking area to the lighthouse, opening up to sweeping views of the Pacific Ocean, rocky shoreline, and distant Olympic Mountains on clear days. The area is quiet, uncrowded, and beautiful in all weather — foggy days feel moody and calm, while sunsets can be spectacular.
Open: 9-4 in the winter & a small donation is a nice gesture
This is an ideal stop for:
A peaceful coastal walk
Photography and sunset viewing
Wildlife spotting (seabirds, seals, occasional whales)
A quick nature break while exploring the Juan de Fuca region
The trail is suitable for most fitness levels and is family-friendly and dog-friendly (on leash). There are benches near the lighthouse to sit and take in the views.
Travel Tip: Wear sturdy footwear as coastal rocks and trail sections can be slippery when wet, especially after rain or during winter months.
Located near Shirley, between Sooke and Jordan River.
