The most popular experience is the year-round day trip from Port Alberni to the remote village of Bamfield.

This is a "working" packet freighter trip, meaning passengers share the deck with mail, groceries, and heavy freight being delivered to roadless outposts.

During the trip, you could spot black bears on the shoreline, bald eagles, seals, and occasionally humpback whales or dolphins.

The ship features a fully licensed galley serving breakfast, lunch, and beverages (including beer and wine), with both indoor and outdoor seating.

The ferry operates from the Alberni Harbour Quay in South Port Alberni.

Days of Operation: Generally sails on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays at 8:00 AM.

Destination Stops: Stops include Kildonan, Haggard Cove, and Bamfield.

Seasonal Routes: From June through early September, the service often extends three times per week to Ucluelet and the Broken Group Islands, a popular drop-off for kayakers.

• Ownership: After nearly closing in August 2021 due to the pandemic, the service was saved by new owners, Devon Transport Ltd., ensuring it remains an active coastal link.

• The MV Frances Barkley: Built in Norway in 1958, this 36-metre heritage vessel can carry 144 passengers and 100 tons of cargo.

• The MV Lady Rose: The original ship (built in 1937) was famous for being the first single-propeller diesel vessel to cross the Atlantic under its own power.
