The Imperial Palace is one of those places in Tokyo where everything slows down. Walking along the moat, with the massive stone walls and bridges in view, you feel a deep sense of history — like you’re brushing against something ancient in the middle of a hyper-modern city. It’s calm, elegant, and spacious, especially compared to the hustle just a few streets away. A great place to take a breather and enjoy a scenic walk.

Best time to photograph:
Late afternoon works best here, especially on sunny days when the warm light hits the stone walls and reflects softly in the water. If you want fewer people in your frame, visit during a weekday morning. The Nijubashi Bridge and the view across the moat are picture-perfect from just about any angle.
