If Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari is out of reach, this spot at Hie Shrine in Chiyoda is the perfect Tokyo alternative. A narrow tunnel of vibrant red torii gates leads you up a steep staircase, wrapping you in that same iconic atmosphere—but without the crowds. It’s a quiet, peaceful escape right in the middle of the city.

I love shooting here on overcast or rainy days—the soft light brings out the red tones, and when someone walks through with an umbrella, it adds the perfect touch. There's something magical about how the symmetry and repetition of the gates draw your eyes forward.

Best Time to Photograph:
All day, but late afternoon or on rainy days is when the mood hits differently. Early morning is also a good call if you want to catch the scene without anyone else around.
