Glaciar Huemul is a compact but striking glacier that descends into a turquoise lagoon near Lago del Desierto, offering a quieter alternative to El Chaltén’s main treks.

The hike to the glacier starts from private land at Lago del Desierto, where a small entrance fee is charged. The trail is short but fairly steep, about 2 km one way, winding through native forest before opening to a stunning view of the glacier spilling into its vivid blue lagoon. It usually takes 1–1.5 hours up and less on the way down, making it a half-day excursion. Because of its manageable distance and rewarding scenery, Glaciar Huemul is a great option for travelers who want glacier views without committing to a full-day trek.
