The Vespignani Glacier is a dramatic hanging glacier on the eastern shore of Lago del Desierto, reached by boat from the lake’s southern end.

After a scenic cruise across the turquoise waters, visitors disembark at a private reserve and can choose between three short hiking trails of varying difficulty. The most rewarding is a moderate uphill walk of about 45 minutes that leads to a viewpoint facing the glacier, with Fitz Roy often visible behind it on clear days. Because it combines a boat trip, forest walks, and close-up glacier views, Vespignani is one of the most accessible yet spectacular excursions near El Chaltén, perfect for travelers who want a half-day adventure without committing to a long trek.
