Laguna Amarga is a striking saltwater lagoon at the eastern entrance of Torres del Paine National Park, famous for its turquoise hue and the dramatic backdrop of the iconic granite towers. Its unique color comes from high mineral content, the result of ancient geological processes where glaciers and tectonic activity carved deep valleys and deposited sediments over millions of years. Wind and water erosion further shaped the basin, leaving behind this surreal, mineral-rich lake.

For photographers, Laguna Amarga is a dream spot—especially from the air. The contrast of the crystalline lagoon against the rugged Patagonian peaks makes it an ideal location for drone photography. The minerals and ancient stromatolite deposits paint the earth's surface around the lake in pale blues, whites, and browns — a natural palette born of salt, stone, and time.

Beyond its beauty, the road leading to Laguna Amarga is considered one of the best places in the park to spot wild pumas, making the journey as memorable as the destination itself.

IMPORTANT: Access to Torres del Paine National Park requires purchasing a ticket in advance via the CONAF portal at https://pasesparques.cl .

This ticket must be bought online before your visit, and the park only accepts entrance with a valid pass—either printed or stored on your mobile device—along with your ID.
