The Gates of Dawn might be known today as a sacred place of prayer, but a few centuries ago, it was actually part of Vilnius’ defensive walls. Back then, the city had ten gates, but this is the only one that has stood the test of time. Inside is the famous painting of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of Mercy—also called the Madonna of the Gates of Dawn.
