Downing Street in London is where the Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer live and work. It was built in the 1680s by Sir George Downing, who planned to create a row of fancy townhouses for important people. Over time, government offices took over most of the street's houses. Number 10 is the Prime Minister's official residence, while Number 11 is where the Chancellor lives.
