If you have time - this castle is a MUST.

Frederiksborg Castle is a stunning Renaissance palace located in Hillerød, Denmark. Built by King Christian the 4th in 1620, it is one of the most significant and iconic castles in the country, known for its impressive architecture.

The castle is surrounded by beautiful baroque gardens, which were laid out in the 1720s. The gardens feature terraced lawns, sculptures, and formal flower beds, all included in the admission ticket.

In 1859 a fire destroyed large parts of Frederiksborg Castle. The Royal Family then decided that they would no longer use the Castle, which led to a debate about what the buildings should be used for instead. The founder of Carlsberg, the brewer J. C. Jacobsen proposed the establishment of a museum of national history at Frederiksborg Castle. He offered to pay for the reconstruction and for the Museum’s further expenses. Since 1878 Frederiksborg Castle has housed The Museum of Natural History, which presents 500 years of Danish history.

The most direct way to reach Frederiksborg Castle is by taking the A-line of the S-train towards Hillerød - it’s about a 1 hour ride and the train goes every 10 min.
