The Rock Buddha was build in an old quarry, visible from afar and located at the foot of a cliff. The large Buddha statue (84 meters tall), called Luang Po U-Thong was carved directly into the limestone rock. Buddha is represented here seated in the position of the lotus, called "padmasana", and his right hand is in the position called "vitarka mudra", symbol of the phase of the life of the Buddha devoted to teaching. The place is still under construction with a tunnel in the cliff, and you can find a small market just near the parking with food, drinks and souvenirs. The place is well know from thai tourists, so expect some people at the time of visit.
