Hakone shrine is a charming Shinto Shrine located on the postcard-worthy shores of Lake Ashi in the quaint town of Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture. Established during the Nara period (751-794), Hakone Jinja is said to have been founded by the Emperor Kōshō. The Shrine worships three kamis: Ninigi-no-Mikoto, Konohanasakuya-hime, and Hoori-no-Mikoto, collectively known as the Hakone Okami. There are numerous cultural artifacts from the shrine displayed in the museum such as national Important Cultural Property. The main festival is held annually on August 1st and is a must see event for those looking to experience true Japanese culture.
